WACO Holds Most Successful Reading Program in Four Years

More than 140 children have completed the Woodfield Area Children's Organization annual Swim into Summer Reading Challenge. "This is the highest level of completion we've seen since we began the program four years ago," said WACO Secretary Linda McGill.

"Without education these children are destined to repeat the cycle when they become adults, and reading is the basis of a sound education," adds WACO Internal Vice President Kevin Leighty.

Each child completed four units of reading over an eight-week course. WACO kicked off the program in May by bringing hundreds of books for the children to take home and keep. Weber Grill provided lunch during the kickoff.

Every two weeks during the program, the children received incentives provided by Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, Weber Grill and WACO.

WACO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving disadvantaged children in the northwest and western suburbs since 1979. For more information go to http://www.waco4kids.org/, or contact Linda McGill mcgwilinator@aol.com or 847.209.5513.
