U-46 Deaf/Hard of Hearing program to host second annual 5K run/walk

The U-46 Deaf and Hard of Hearing program Saturday, May 13 will host the second annual 5K run/walk in Bartlett.

The community is asking walkers and runners to lace up their shoes to help build parent and student connections and promote a healthy lifestyle.

The event supports more than 100 U-46 students with hearing loss that are served in self-contained classrooms. The U-46 Deaf and Hard of Hearing program, established in 2007, serves students who have varying degrees of hearing loss. Teachers provide instruction in both special classes and mainstream classrooms, depending on the students' needs.

There is also a district team of sign language interpreters, teacher's assistants, an audiologist, a counselor and an auditory trainer, all of whom are making a difference in the lives of deaf and hard of hearing students.

The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 13, with an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

It will be held at James Pate Philip State Park (Bartlett Nature Center), 2050 W. Stearns Road, Bartlett.
