Annual spring concert to make 'Make A Joyful Noise' March 19

The First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake presents its annual spring concert "Make a Joyful Noise" at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at the church, 461 Pierson St.

It features the church's 60-member adult Vestry Choir and the Jubilate Handbell Choir, under the leadership team of director of music Ann Tucker, accompanist Barbara Thorsen and bellmaster Toni Gambini.

Vestry Choir will perform favorites from the past 18 years of Tucker's tenure with the church's music department.

"Let the People Praise Thee" was composed by William Mathias for the marriage of Lady Diana Spencer to the Prince of Wales. Another favorite is Daniel Gawthrop's exquisite "Sing Me to Heaven" with the amazing text by Jane Griner. Other pieces programmed include Moses Hogan's fantastic "Battle of Jericho" and Richard Smallwood's inspirational "Total Praise" as well as Hailstork's uplifting setting of Psalm 23, "The Lord is My Shepherd."

The Men of Vestry Choir are thrilled to present the moving "Prayer for the Children" by Kurt Bestor and the women will present Andrea Ramsey's beautiful "Mueveme." "Psalm 8," composed by Dan Forrest, rounds out Vestry's portion of the concert.

FCC's accomplished Jubilate Adult Handbell Choir will perform "A Mighty Fortress," arranged by Joel Raney, a beautiful selection by Cathy Moklebust, "Despite the Storm," and "Toccata On King's Weston," arranged by Compton. "Capriccio" by Kevin McChesney will feature the unusual combination of bells and boomwhackers. An arrangement from Handel's "Seventh Suite" titled "Passacaglia" by William Griffin and "Acclamation" by Arnold Sherman also will be performed.
