Help RAH, D211 Foundation assist homeless teens

What would you do if you were facing homelessness? As you think about that, add in the fact that you are also a high school student. During the 2014-2015 school year, more than 200 students were classified as homeless.

These are young people that are from your neighborhood, or you see around town, and you are unaware they and their families are living through crisis.

This issue is the very reason that RAH (Realtors Against Homelessness) exists. RAH is made up of 11 area real estate professionals who became aware of the growing problem and decided to do something about it.

Since 2009, annual fundraisers have been organized by RAH and the funds generated are donated to the District 211 Foundation. The money goes to help students and their families secure their homes and pay for groceries, gas and other basic necessities. To date, RAH has raised more than $80,000.

If you would like to help, attend the RAH fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Chandler's Banquets, 401 N. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. The evening will include an appetizer buffet, auctions, raffles and entertainment. Sponsorships are still available, and more information can be found at www.realtorsagainsthomelessness.com/become-a-sponsor.

Due to RAH's alignment with the District 211 Foundation, all donations are tax deductible. Monetary donations must be made directly to the District 211 Foundation-Homeless Initiative and can be sent to District 211 Foundation, 1750 S. Roselle Road, Palatine, IL 60067. The D211 Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization.

Realtors Against Homelessness was founded in August of 2011 by local Realtors who work for a variety of area real estate offices. Together, they joined forces with a mission to provide support to the growing number of homeless students attending District 211 schools.

By increasing awareness and fundraising efforts, RAH has been able to positively impact the lives of homeless students. RAH members are Gail Bergstrom, Sandie Bobus, Maureen Brand, Cindy Eich, Marty Eich, Sue Gould, Maria Radwan, Greg Smith, Stephanie Szigetvari, Basel Tarabein and Nick Blesz.
