It is a 100-percent volunteer-led organization committed to providing the best baseball experience for community youth. They provide a positive, structured, educational baseball experience, rich with sportsmanship and healthy recreational competition for approximately 2,200 boys and girls, age 5 to 17, during two seasons per year (spring/summer and fall). The league has no residency requirements so players are welcome regardless of where you live.

No matter the age of your growing ballplayer, Wasco Baseball has an appropriate level for you. The recreational baseball program aims for players to learn fundamentals, develop a love for the game, and most importantly, have fun!

The spring season begins with practices in early April. Opening day is April 25. Games are played weekdays starting at 5:30 or 6 p.m. Saturday start times range from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are no Sunday games, though it could be used for makeup games. No games are played Memorial Day weekend and the season concludes the end of June.

Below is a brief description of each league (age as of April 30, 2015):

• Pee Wee for age 5 to 6: three innings in length, all players play the field and bat each inning. Coach pitches to team. A batting tee may be used. Coach can form their team. Limestone infields to minimize rainouts. Cost $150.

• Instructional for age 7 to 8: Nine players play the field. All bat or until three outs are made. Cost is $160. Two divisions (Red for coach pitch and blue for partial kid pitch). Limestone infields to minimize rainouts. A player's first year has to be played in Red. After that they can play in red or blue. The player must be 8 years old to play in Blue. The coach can form their team.

For the Minor, Major, and Pony leagues, all players will go through a tryout and be evaluated by the coaches. They will then be chosen through a draft. Players not able to attend the tryout will be picked through a blind draft, which is held at the end of draft day. Coach and assistant coaches are placed on the same team with their son/daughter.

• Minor for age 9 to 10: Illinois High School Association baseball rules with some modifications, such as: no infield fly or dropped third strike. No lead-offs, steal bases once ball crosses the plate. Cost is $190. All bat, player pitch. Limestone infields to minimize rainouts.

• Major for age 11 to 12: IHSA baseball rules with a few modifications. All bat, player pitch. Cost is $195.

• Pony for age 13 to 14: IHSA baseball rules with a couple modifications. Cost is $205.

• Colt for age 15 to 18: IHSA baseball rules. Cost is $230.

• Club for age 16 to 20: IHSA baseball rules. It is for players not playing high school baseball. IHSA rules. Cost is $230.

It is a 10-game season from April 4 to May 10, plus single elimination tournament on the weekend of May 16, with championship recognition.

It is primarily Sunday games, except Easter weekend when games are on Saturday. Games played at Brown Road Field.

Individual or full team registrations are welcome. Contact Colt@wascobaseball.com for full team details.

Play-ups: If player is within one year of the next age level up, they can attend the play-up tryout on Saturday, March 7, in order to play in the next higher league. For example, a player who is 8 years old as of April 30, 2015 may qualify to play instructional but can attempt to play up into minors since that age level is for 9- to 10-year-olds.

Hat, jersey, socks, and baseball pants are included in the registration fee. Because safety is their highest priority, Wasco Baseball provides quality equipment such as batting helmets and catchers gear for each team.
