INTREN goes the distance to support Women In Business

UNION, Ill. - September 19, 2014 - Woman-owned utility contractor, INTREN, furthered the company's mission to advance women in business as a Premier WBE Sponsor and featured exhibitor at the 28th annual Entrepreneurial Woman's Conference, held Sept. 16-17, at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago.

Loretta Rosenmayer, INTREN founder and CEO, hosted a group of guests at the conference, including a bright, recent college graduate that Loretta is mentoring. In all, more than 45 professional women, many of whom are WBEs and prospective WBEs from California, Detroit, Michigan, and the Chicago area, joined Loretta for three exciting days of Women in Business events.

Loretta's presence at the conference demonstrated INTREN's commitment to boosting women in the professional sphere. First Business reporter Paul Eggers spoke with Loretta on the topic of being a woman-owned business and what it takes to remain successful in the competitive energy industry.

"Being a woman-owned business is a wonderful advantage that will get you to the table," Rosenmayer said. "However, it will not keep you there. In this industry, it is not about your gender but about your delivery because we come in contact with electricity and gas on a regular basis and safety, quality and performance are paramount."

On Sept. 18, Loretta and her guests attended the Chicago Foundation for Women's 29th annual Luncheon featuring Billie Jean King as the keynote speaker. The women were captivated and charmed by King's warmth and humor as she spoke to them about her life and her mission to advance the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.

Later that evening, the women and Loretta's mentee were treated to a tour of the beautiful Glessner House Museum where the Federation of Women Contractors hosted their 25th Anniversary Celebration.

During the conference, luncheons and evening celebration, INTREN met with fellow M/WBE customers and partners in the utility industry, furthering their commitment to embracing, mentoring and partnering with other M/WBE companies.

INTREN has been WBE-Certified for more than 20 years. In addition to its M/WBE Mentoring Program, the company founded the POWER Group in 2010, dedicated to the "Promotion of Women in Energy Roles."
