Palatine Battle of the Bands Scheduled for June 9

Palatine Park District presents the 2014 Palatine Battle of the Bands at 7:00pm on Monday, June 9 at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 East Palatine Road, Palatine, IL 60067. Admission to the battle on June 9 is free. Prizes for the bands this year have been provided by The Drum Pad and The Music Room.

The three chosen bands will perform for the public and a panel of judges on June 9. One band will be selected to advance to the Illinois Battle of the Bands Regional competition, an Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) event. The Regional battle of the bands will be taking place on June 28, also at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater in Palatine. The regional winner will advance to the Illinois State Battle of the Bands Finals to be held in Springfield on August 16. Additionally, the Village of Palatine will select a band to perform at Palatine Street Fest in August and the Palatine Jaycees will select a band to perform at their Hometown Fest in July.

The following three bands will be competing at this year's Palatine Battle of the Bands:

Ember Oceans

Joe Cox (guitar,vocals), Parker Simonaitis (drums), Fred Purcell (guitar, vocals, keyboard), Sean Groebe (bass)

Band Bio: Forming in the winter of 2012, Ember Oceans began as a two man hobby and has become an alternative pop/rock powerhouse in the Palatine area. Their plan to attend Harper College in the fall is allowing them to pursue their music further and follow the passions that brought them together.

Nothing Yet

Brad Kolar (guitar/vocals), Tom Schneider (guitar), Dean Roehrborn (bass/vocals), Jake Van Wolvelear (Keyboard), Dean Kolar (drums)

Nothing Yet covers songs of artists from the 60's through today with an emphasis on classic and alternative rock. The band has also written some original material. The band was formed from the common interest of making music. All the members have grown up in the Palatine Winston Park neighborhood. They have been playing together for over three years and love having a good time with the audience. Brad, Tommy, Dean, Jake and Dean all attend Palatine High School. Nothing Yet looks forward to playing at area fests again this summer.

Shinehammer

Joe Bojanoski (lead guitar), Jake Sounde (lead vocals), Kyle Anderson (drums), Alex Lewandowski (bass guitar)

Band Bio: Shinehammer is a hard rock band from Crystal Lake, IL. The band's lead guitarist and lead vocalist met in the Kola Music Rock School Program. With a common goal of putting together a band, they recruited their drummer from another rock school class and the bassist from their high school. Shinehammer strives to be an original rock band, writing and performing their own music.
