Lakeside Legacy Arts presents comedy showcase June 14

Julie Ostrow and her comedic friends will perform in the Listening Room at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake.

Come hear the comedic insights from comediennes of Chicago and the surrounding area at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Tickets, which are on sale now, are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Contact the box office at (815) 455-8000 or www.lakesidelegacy.org/2013-schedule-3/.

Siobhan Cottone, Lakeside's executive director, remarked, "Lakeside is excited to bring new and exciting talent to the Listening Room. It is a fabulous venue for not only music, but all types performing arts! Previous comedy shows in the Listening Room have packed the room, so make sure to purchase your tickets today."

Ostrow is an experienced comedian who performs stand-up comedy, improvisation, and laughter yoga in the Chicago area in addition performing before worldwide organizations. She also conducts improv workshops for actors and nonactors. Her training in improvisational acting comes from The Second City in Chicago, while she also gains other experience by being a certified laughter yoga leader. Let's not forget that Ostrow has the honor of being America's first laughing champion. A laughing championship is a public contest where people compete in a series of laughter skills. The contests are usually judged on contagiousness, hilarity and technique. Since the 1st one in Montreal in 2011, there have been contests in Japan, France, the U.K., the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria and California.

Ostrow's goal is to facilitate laughter in the lives of people while acting as a catalyst for rediscovering and recreating joy, creativity, and childlike playfulness.

"We know audiences will be laughing off their seat from Ostrow's witty humor," stated Roger Reupert, the Listening Room house manager when asked about Ostrow's comedy.

Joining Ostrow during this Comedy Showcase is a very talented group of women that are sure to entertain and amuse you. Judi Schindler from Chicago, Liysa Croll Callsen from Manitowoc, Wis., Mary Foland from Crystal Lake, Leah Emmerich and Sital Shah of Evanston, all will be making appearances during this hilarious, comedic event.

This Comedy Showcase will be a unique and humorous experience for all.

If online sales have not sold out, tickets can also be purchased at the door for $20. Lakeside encourages people to purchase tickets in advance. If you purchase tickets at the door on June 14, however, please arrive by 7 p.m. A cash bar is also available during the concert.
