Palatine Park District will be honoring the National Day of Service on January 20 with two events created by members of the Palatine Park District employee Service Committee.
Valentines for Veterans, an event for the entire family, will be held from 10:00am to 11:30am on January 20 at Community Center, Room 1C, 250 E. Wood Street, Palatine. The fee for this event for all ages is just $3 per family and registration can be completed using code 6411-4 at www.palatineparks.org. Participants will create valentines to be delivered to local veterans hospitals. An assortment of craft supplies will be provided and all ages are welcome to attend; parents must remain at the event to supervise their children.
The mission of Operation Write Home is to support our nation's armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. Palatine Park District will be providing the materials to create handmade cards that will be sent to troops overseas for their use in communicating with home. This event for adults will be held on January 20 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the American Legion Post 690, 122 West Palatine Road, Palatine. Registration for the $5 per person fee, to cover material and postage costs, can be completed at www.palatineparks.org using code 6412-4. All card making materials will be provided, along with snacks and raffles. A cash bar will be available.
Members of the community are invited to attend either event for just a short time, or for the entire time, to create cards. For more information, contact Lisa Schroeder, Special Interest Coordinator, at 847-496-6229 or email@example.com.
