Grove United U12 Elite Use Their Daily Mantras, Win the 2013 Illinois State Cup Championship

The Grove United U12 Elite Girls and Coach Henry Goldenstein live by a discipline. Using a solid brand of individual and team defense, the ability to magically execute offense, and tremendous goalkeeping, the Grove United U12 Elite Girls soccer team had the formula for going 5-0 over two weekends to win the 2013 US Youth Soccer Championship Illinois State Cup.

Dare yourself to do something spectacular. The first game vs. Illinois Fusion (Bloomington) started with two quick goals from Hannah Lapeire from Grove United. The positive offensive approach quickly transitioned into two goals from Alexa Davis and one goal from Kalyssa Van Zanten in the second half for the victory.

Each time you are on the field, make something positive happen rather than just avoiding mistakes. The second game began with a beautiful assist from Alexa Davis to Kalyssa Van Zanten in the first half. Noemi Venegas buried a free kick with about one minute to go to solidify the Grove United victory.

Work hard with the intent to not only make yourself better, but also make your teammate better. Grove United dominated from the first minute of game three with a strong offensive effort, quality defense, and control. Shutting down the Joga Bonito offense were Goalie Olivia Hanner, Defenders Andrea Avendano, Kristin Hill, Alexis Baier, and Emma Nolan, and most notably Sweeper Jalyn Mosley from Grove United.

The time you spend on the field is not defined by the number of minutes, but the quality of the minutes you play. As Semi-Finals began, Game 4 play became much more competitive with a scoreless first half. Then, Grove United took control with two assists from Noemi Venegas to Kalyssa Van Zanten. Grove United then went up 3-1 with a free kick from Venegas and held on for the 3-2 victory.

Final Grove United 3, Team Chicago 2 – Semi-Finals

We win as a team, we lose as a team. With key forward Alexa Davis called from the game for injury, the prospect was unsure, but Grove United surprised Chicago Magic and came out with a fast offensive blitz. Kalyssa Van Zanten was assisted by Hannah Lapeire and Katherine Hanner to go up 2-0 for a quick lead. The Chicago Magic were unable to penetrate the Grove United defense and the Championship was sealed.

Grove United is a Buffalo Grove, IL based youth travel soccer program.
