Buffalo Grove snaps Fremd’s MSL streak
Buffalo Grove had badminton singles winners at fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and 10th singles on Saturday to win the Mid-Suburban League tournament it hosted Saturday, putting an end to a seven-year conference winning streak for Fremd.
The Bison needed each of those victories to hold off Fremd, as Buffalo Grove finished with 64 points to 62 for the Vikings.
Fremd junior Angela Wu repeated as the No. 1 singles champ and Kelly Owens won for the Vikings at No. 2.
But Buffalo Grove got wins from Mary Zawlocki (No. 4), Julie Jambrone (No. 5), Katelyn Sommers (No. 7), Stephanie Mayer (No. 8) and Kylie North (No. 10) to protect the narrow lead it had earned from Friday’s doubles play.
Prospect finished third with 46.5 points and got a victory at No. 3 singles from Kiley Walsh.
Hersey (40.5) placed fourth, ahead of Palatine (38.5) and Barrington.
