Join Relay for Life of Huntley

Relay for Life (RFL) of Huntley 2013 is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. on June 14 through 6 a.m. on June 15. This is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event where teams made up of friends, family, coworkers, etc. fundraise throughout the year and then come together to walk a track through the night. Relay for Life of Huntley is held at the Rec Center, Huntley Park District located at 12015 Mill Street in Huntley.

This year's theme is Luau and we are encouraging our teams to decorate their campsites to the theme.

Some of the entertainment we have planned for the night includes:

- Envision Dance Company (dancers are also part of Relay team 'Envision')

- Intrigue Fitness Hula Hoop presentation (participation is also encouraged)

- Belly Dance with Natalie Block of Belly Rhythms

- Zumba with Ivette Garven (Ivette is also captain of Relay team One G1RLZ. Ivette has a Zumbathon scheduled for May 3 at the Rec Center, Huntley Park District that she is doing as a fundraiser.)

- "The Lenny's" are returning. ( This is a band who's lead singer is the team captain for Relay team 'Where's Waldenstrom's'. )

RFL of Huntley has a Culver's Night planned for Tuesday, May 14, at the Culver's on Rt 47 in Huntley. This is a fundraiser for RFL and Culver's will donate a portion of proceeds from sales between 4 & 8 p.m.

Relay is a time to remember loved ones lost, celebrate our friends and loved ones who have survived cancer and fight back! To celebrate our survivors, we have planned a complimentary dinner on June 14 at 5:15 p.m. The dinner will be held at the site of our Relay. We encourage cancer survivors to register for our Relay and attend the dinner. The survivors will also kick off our walk by leading the first lap.

Teams also sell luminaria bags for a $10 donation. The name of a person being remembered or honored is written on each bag. The bags are then placed around the track and then illuminated after dark.

This is a community event and we've gotten some great support from area businesses. We continue to look for for more businesses in our community to participate either by cash donation, gift in kind, or even forming a fundraising team to walk with us.

This is such an amazing event and great opportunity to get involved in the fight against cancer. We hope to continue to increase participation in our event that raises much needed dollars that the American Cancer Society uses for research and to provide services to those fighting cancer.
