Lakes nets fourth straight triumph

Lakes’ boys volleyball team won its fourth straight match Wednesday night, defeating Libertyville 25-22, 25-21 in its North Suburban Conference opener.

Lakes (4-3) played from behind in both sets, including 10-7 in the first and 16-10 in the second. Nick Powell had a huge defensive night for the Eagles with 21 digs.

Mason Solbrig (10 kills), Dalton Solbrig (8) and Richard Galat (5) led Lakes’ offensive attack. Matt Parenti dished out 23 assists. Mason Solbrig and Tim Gorski each served a pair of aces, while Mason Solbrig added 4 blocks. James Olson contributed 2 blocks for the Eagles.

Lake Forest d. Mundelein: The Scouts captured a 25-19, 25-21 decision in a match that went back and forth.

Lake Forest (1-1) was led in kills by junior middle Sam Danneker and Sammy Watson with 8 apiece. Jeff Habjan lofted 15 assists.

Vernon Hills d. Warren: The Cougars won their North Suburban Conference opener 25-16, 14-25, 25-12 to improve to 7-1 overall.

Michael Heinz and Max Spiglanin each had 7 kills for Vernon Hills, while Lem Turner recorded 6 blocks and 3 kills. Ryan Opitz set 59 of 60 with 20 assists.

“When we’re aggressive, we play decent volleyball,” Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. “Lem Turner had a good night blocking, and Jake Baruch (12-of-12 serving, 2 aces) put together a great serve run (6 straight points) in the third set to help us pull away.”

Stevenson d. North Chicago: Keenan Herman and Connor Perlin had 5 and 4 kills, respectively, for the Patriots in their 25-8, 25-5 win.
