Former three-term Buffalo Grove mayor Elliott Hartstein on Friday endorsed Republican state Rep. Sid Mathias in the 59th District, over Democratic state Rep. Carol Sente. Hartstein, a Democrat, said it is unfortunate that Sente and Mathias were pitted against each other in the Democratic remap, and that it is a "major" mistake for the Democratic leadership to try to oust a reasonable, moderate Republican like Mathias, "who has always worked well with Democrats and worked to bring along and persuade some of his colleagues on issues."

"We must have such people in both Republican and Democratic caucuses if we hope to ever come up with bipartisan solutions to the major challenges facing our state," he added.
