Junior Parola tops at Steeple Chase

Derek Parola looked right at home playing on his home golf course.

The Mundelein junior, whose dad is Mundelein coach Todd Parola, shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors in the Mundelein invitational at Steeple Chase Golf Course on Saturday.

Huntley — which received 75s from Ryan Craig, Gage Jerab and Tyler Ross — won the championship with a 302. Mundelein (305) finished three shots back in the seven-team field, while Vernon Hills (323) was third. Grayslake Central (329) was fourth and Lakes (340) fifth.

Runner-up Grant Heelan and Bret Cigelnik shot 74 and 79, respectively, for Mundelein. Chuck Mohr’s 80 accounted for the Mustangs’ fourth score.

Third-place Vernon Hills was led by the 79s carded by Eric Swanson and Chris Edwards.

Grayslake Central’s Dan Choi had a 76 to finish sixth.

Mike Barry’s 81 paced Lakes.
