Baseball/Fox Valley roundup

Elgin 7, Woodstock North 2: A 4-run first inning was the difference in the Maroons’ (9-17) nonconference win over Woodstock North. Derek Strohmaier was 3-for-4 with 2 triples and 2 runs scored while Kiko Mari had a double and 2 RBI. Eric Sedlack (2-2) pitched 5 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

St. Francis 6, Westminster Christian 3 (9 inn.): Although Westminster Christian (15-10, 8-1) rallied in the sixth inning on a double steal of second base and home to tie the game and force extras, the Spartans put a 5-spot across in the top of the ninth for nonconference victory over the Warriors. Ryan Perez was superb on the mound. He struck out 12, gave up 3 hits, 2 walks and an earned run in 7 innings pitched. Perez (1-for-4) also had a solo homer to lead off the ninth, before the rally fell short. Dylan Scully went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and a stolen base in the loss.

Rolling Meadows 7, Bartlett 3: Colin Nowak and Dan Gallanis both had an RBI and a hit a piece for the Hawks (11-16-1, 6-11-1), but it wasn’t enough to down the Mustangs in this Mid-Suburban/Upstate Eight clash. Robert Smith (1-for-4, 2B) managed the only extra basehit for Bartlett.
