Nicor Gas recognized with 'Helping People. Changing Lives' Award from Community Action Partnership - Lake County

Last week, Nicor Gas was recognized by the Community Action Partnership of Lake County (CAP) with a "Helping People. Changing Lives" Award for the company's support of CAP's senior citizen meal program.

In 2022, CAP received a basic needs pillar grant from Nicor Gas and has been able to use funds to deliver 150 cooked hot meals each weekday to senior citizens residing in four low-to-moderate senior buildings. By receiving a full portion lunch delivered Mondays through Fridays at no cost to the senior, the project addressed two harms from the pandemic; inflation in food cost and inflation in transportation costs.

"In Illinois, we know that nearly 11% of residents live in poverty and are facing food insecurity, homelessness and affordable housing struggles," said Meena Beyers, vice president of Community & Business Development at Nicor Gas. "Access to healthy, nutritious foods is a basic need and we are committed to helping our neighbors obtain meals that give them energy every day through great partnerships with organizations like the Community Action Partnership of Lake County."

Nicor Gas has had a funding relationship with CAP Lake County since 2013. Since 2020, they've received funding to help the natural gas provider administer the Energy Aide Program for Lake County residents who need assistance with utility bill payments.

Since 2013, Nicor Gas has supported CAP Lake County with over $38,000 in program grants and since 2020 with $60,000 in energy aide.
