Roselle Public Library District holds referendum info sessions

The Roselle Public Library District is hosting several informational sessions in February and March. Needs assessment, resident priorities, tax implications and project features related to the upcoming building referendum request will be discussed.

The next sessions will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 24 and March 17, in the library's community room, 40 Park St.

In mid-January, the Roselle Public Library District announced it will put to voters a $22 million bond request to raise revenue to erect and furnish a new library campus. The referendum question will be on the April 4 election ballot.

Library board of trustees and professional staff will present information on the state of the current library building and its infrastructure needs, priorities identified by residents during surveys, concepts for a new library campus and tax implications for residents.

"This is an important fiscal decision with long-range impacts, and as a board, we feel it is important that voters make the final decision after weighing all the facts," said Katie Smith, president of the Roselle Public Library District board of trustees. "These information sessions will give our residents several opportunities to learn all the details, ask questions and make the best-informed decision for themselves and their community."

The new library complex would be a cornerstone for the Main Street revitalization and provide Roselle a modern and highly functional library to meet current and future needs of adults and children alike.
