Meet Schaumburg author at book signing on Oct. 29

Author and Schaumburg resident Susan Miura will meet readers and sign books from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Barnes and Noble, 1802 S. Randall Road, Algonquin.

Miura's books include the young adult novels "Healer," "Shards of Light" and "Signs in the Dark," all of which include suspense, diversity and drama, with touches of humor and romance.

These novels are recipients of the Illumination, Moonbeam, Wishing Shelf, Royal Dragonfly and Readers Favorite awards.

Her inspirational fiction, "Surviving Carmelita," will also be available for purchase and signing. In 2021, "Surviving Carmelita" was awarded Christian Market Novel of the Year, second place, from the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.

"My characters come from diverse backgrounds because I want them to reflect the world we live in," Miura said. "Life's hardships and hurdles don't care about your ethnicity, abilities, economic status or beliefs. In each story, my characters face something life-changing that turns their worlds inside out."

Miura explained that one character is gifted with the power to heal, another suffers an accident that derails her ballet career, and a deaf character gets kidnapped. One character is a suspect in a crime he didn't commit.

In "Surviving Carmelita," a fun Halloween night becomes a nightmare when a car accident shatters the lives of two families.

"How each of them overcomes obstacles and rises from the ashes will, I hope, provide encouragement to readers dealing with any kind of adversity," Miura said.

"But I also strive for good storytelling, so there's plenty of action, relationship drama, danger, cool animals, and twists and turns along the way."

Miura is a former journalist and public relations professional who now works as a freelance editor.
