Glenbard Parent Series webinar to discuss adolescent depression, suicide

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will present "More Than Moody" with child and adolescent psychiatrist Harold Koplewicz M.D. It will begin at noon via Zoom. Go to glenbardgps.org for further information and the link to this webinar.

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for children, adolescents and young adults ages 15 to 24. While many people feel uncomfortable talking about suicide, Koplewicz will explain why discussion is vital and how it can provide assurance.

Koplewicz will discuss the growing problem of teenage depression in America and help adults differentiate clinical depression from normal teenage angst, disappointment and sadness. Koplewicz will explain how to recognize the warning signs of depression and suicide. He will demystify the treatment process and break down stigmas. His presentation will equip adults to counteract general anxiety in children and explain how to best provide them with steady and warm emotional nourishment.

Koplewicz is president of The Child Mind Institute, an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming mental healthcare for children.
