Glendale Heights Oktoberfest marking 10 years of German food, music and fun

Experience daily live entertainment, including strolling German "oompah" entertainers, and sample a selection of German beers and food under the big tent at the 10th annual Glendale Heights Oktoberfest on Sept. 15-25.

The 11-day festival at Camera Park, 101 E. Fullerton Ave., will be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 5 p.m. to midnight Fridays, noon to midnight Saturdays, and noon to 10 p.m. Sundays. Admission after 5 p.m. is $5 or free for youth 16 or younger. Oktoberfest, covered by a spacious tent, will be held rain or shine. Parking is free.

To round out the Glendale Heights Oktoberfest experience, there will be vendors with German products, souvenirs, hats, steins, and more.

Polka band Eddie Korosa Jr. and The Boys from Illinois will perform at 5 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 15 and 22, and Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Paloma, which is celebrating 45 years of performing in the Chicago area, will be bringing their classic German songs, new German hits, oldies, country and classic standards to the festival for four performances: 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18; 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23; and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24.

The Elmhurst University Jazz Band returns to the festival with its Friday night shows at 6 p.m. Sept. 16 and 23.

Euro Express will be playing German-American heritage music, including Bavarian music, at three concerts this weekend: 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16; 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18.

On Sundays, Sept. 18 and 26, the Illinois Brass Band will open the day's festivities with music at 12:30 p.m.

The German folk/pop band Alpine Thunder will be performing at 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the School of Rock Naperville and the School of Rock Glen Ellyn will be opening the festival stage at 12:30 p.m.

The menu includes Schnitzel sandwich with grilled onions; German bratwurst and roll; roasted half-chicken; or a foot-long Frankfurter Würstchen with roll. These combos include a choice of one side: bread dumpling with gravy, German potato salad, roasted potatoes, or sauerkraut.

There also will be large German pretzels with a cheese sauce, and pork shank with sauerkraut.

The children's menu features a hot dog or chicken nuggets, with chips, beverage and a treat.

This year, Sunrise Chevrolet is hosting a raffle to win a new 2022 Malibu, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. There will only be 600 tickets sold for $50 each for a chance to win the car or Samsung 60-inch 4k Smart TV, a 10.2-inch 64GB iPad, a Solo Stove Bonfire Fire Pit, a Yeti Roadie 24 Cooler, and $500 cash.

Raffle tickets will be at the Oktoberfest or via www.sunrisechevrolet.com/making-strides-against-breast-cancer/ now through Oct. 31. On Nov. 1, they will draw names for 10 finalists with a live drawing to announce the winners on Saturday, Nov. 5.
