Itasca Oktoberfest returns for 14th year Sept. 9-11

Bring your lederhosen for the 14th annual Itasca Oktoberfest on Sept. 9-11 at Washington Park, 350 E. Irving Park Road in Itasca.

There will be German food, live entertainment, and drinks from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and 3 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, it will be a Family Fun Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event is free of charge, and everyone in the community is invited to attend.

The Oktoberfest will open with the tapping of the first keg with Mayor Jeff Pruyn. Alpine Thunder, a German folk/pop band, will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Bratwurst Brothers, who perform Oktoberfest music and popular contemporary favorites as well as classics, will take the stage from 3 to 6 p.m.

Euro Express, which plays German-American heritage music including Bavarian music, will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.

The festival features authentic German food prepared by My Shared Kitchen, including spaetzle, pork with red cabbage, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and pretzels. There also will be a kids' menu with chicken nuggets and fries.

German hats will be sold for $3 each, and all proceeds go to the Itasca Walk-In Ministry and the Itasca Food Pantry.

On Sunday, it wil be the Itasca Oktoberfest Family Fun Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Enjoy a day filled with games, food trucks, police cars, fire trucks, and entertainment.

The festival is sponsored by Village of Itasca, Itasca Park District, Itasca Community Library, and Itasca Parent Teacher Organization District 10.
