Sign up for Summer OPUS Chamber Music Camp by June 15

For the 20th year, young musicians, ages 8 to18, who play strings, piano, or woodwinds will discover the joys of exploring and performing chamber music in trios, quartets and quintets at the annual OPUS Chamber Music Camp. This in-person camp will be held Monday to Saturday, Aug. 1-6, on the North Central College campus in Naperville, Ill.

At the OPUS Camp, students not only become better musicians through world-class coaching and participating in concerts that have garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube, but more importantly, they become better citizens of the community.

The camp also presents a musical experience to students for whom long distance travel and boarding are prohibitive factors. With plenty of scholarships available, they have successfully kept the tuition costs down.

The 2022 camp program will be a jam-packed blast. In addition to chamber music, students also participate in orchestra or handbell choir, Creative Arts Connections Projects, master classes, instrument choirs or technique classes, and an inclusive Flash Mob ensemble.

The camp culminates in campers performing in two "Listen to Our Young Artists" concerts at the acoustically beautiful Wentz Concert Hall.

Supported by more than 30 faculty and 20 teaching assistants, Mara Gallagher will orchestrate the program as the music director to both advance students' musical skills as well as maximize their learning pleasure. OPUS will be offering two additional concerts in Wentz Concert Center this summer:

• GALA "Uplifting 20" concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, where professional faculty and guest musicians, and distinguished past campers will perform to celebrate OPUS' 20th Chamber Music Anniversary.

• "Salute, Honor, and Love" concert at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, where select campers, teaching assistants, and faculty will perform for beloved veterans and seniors.

OPUS programs have always been committed to creating a diverse and equitable environment. The 2022 camp has placed a priority on performing chamber music composed by underrepresented composers. The deadline for camp registration is Wednesday, June 15. Each camper will be placed in a chamber group based on audition videos.

The Orchestra Parents/Patrons' United Support Association is a 501(c)3 charitable, nonprofit volunteer organization with a mission to stimulate and sustain students' interest in chamber and orchestral music. Its signature program is its annual chamber music camp for young musicians.
