Home of the Sparrow 35th Anniversary Gala in May 2022 at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills

Home of the Sparrow (HOS) invites you to join us for an extravagant evening at the Sanfilippo Estate in Barrington Hills, Illinois on Saturday, May 21st, 2022 from 5 pm to 10 pm. Home of the Sparrow will celebrate its 35th Anniversary, accomplishments, community impact, and history and hear stories of inspiration from women who were in the program. Guests attending the event will be welcomed to explore the estate's magnificence through a self-guided tour of the mansion and collections. Attendees will also enjoy an open bar and exquisite dinner followed by a short program highlighting how community support positively impacts those we serve. The evening will also be filled with exciting packages in the live and silent auction, Fund-the-Need, and will end with a fun and unique carousel race.

HOS opened its doors as a registered 501(c)3 non-profit homeless shelter in 1987. Today, Home of the Sparrow not only provides Transitional Shelter, but also Affordable Housing and Rapid Re-Housing along with Supportive Services that address the core issues of homelessness. Since then, HOS has remained dynamic in assessing and responding to the needs of hundreds of homeless women and children in our community.

Our mission is to provide Hope, Opportunity and Support that empowers women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Over the past 35 years, HOS has celebrated many memorable milestones including opening its first "Sparrows Nest Thrift Store & Donation Center" located in McHenry in 1992; In 1997 the McHenry shelter expanded to include additional shelter units and HOS received the Governors Home Town Award for Volunteerism; In 2013 the agency partnered with Housing Opportunity Development Corporation and added its first 11 Affordable Housing units to its portfolio in 2012 along with a home from the County, then subsequently was awarded funding through the HUD Home Program, acquiring 6 additional affordable housing units; In 2014 and additional funding to total 24 Affordable Housing units. Two more units are slated for the 2022-2023 year, the Outreach and Prevention program was established; In 2016 HOS was awarded "Nonprofit of the Year" by Shaw Media; In 2017 HOS added the 21st-23rd Affordable Housing units; In 2019 HOS welcomed Community Threads Upscale Resale Store into its thrift store family and opened the Sparrow's Nest eBay Online Thrift Store; In 2022 HOS launched an Employment Program. We are excited for what the future holds!
