Local flutist Kathrine Eldridge presents "Finding Hope in the Midst of Loss" a music and poetry recital at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Avenue Christian Church, 5750 Holmes Ave., Clarendon Hills. Tickets are $10 per person, are on-sale now at ticketpeak.co/kathrineeldridge. Parking is free.

The recital will feature a musical journey of selected flute pieces performed by musician Kathrine Eldridge which will be preceded by poetry readings used in Kathrine's art journal. She began her art and poetry journal as a way to process her emotions and cultivate gratitude during the pandemic. This, in turn, motivated her to get back to playing the flute professionally. During the concert, images from her art journal will be exhibited.

The recital explores the losses she has felt while also celebrating the joys that have kept her going through the waiting and the hardships.

"Many people, including myself, have experienced loss during the pandemic," explained Kathrine Eldridge. "Whether it's the death of a loved one or loss of time, we all have been affected in some way. I have experienced this firsthand, through the death of my first husband 10 years ago and the hiatus of my flute career."

"Through this concert, using the spoken word, music, and art - my goal is to shine a light on the beauty that can be found in our suffering. Now, seeing the resurgence of the Coronavirus, has made me realize how important it is to share my art journaling practice and how it has helped me cope in these uncertain times," said Kathrine. "I hope to inspire others whether it's to find their way back to something that brings them joy, like I did with my love of music, or to even start something new. It's never too late."

Kathrine Eldridge acknowledges the support received from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
