Huntley's Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church to host Winter Food Drive Feb. 6

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley will hold a food drive to benefit Grafton Food Pantry on Sunday, Feb. 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, 10805 Main St.

"The Grafton Food Pantry is in great need of personal care items and cleaning supplies," said Mike Yndestad, Community Outreach Chairman, at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church. "We are pleased to continue our support for individuals and families in our own communities who are in need."

Members of the church's confirmation class will provide assistance with the food collection.

"The Youth & Family team believes it is extremely important for our confirmation students, sixth- to eighth-graders, to be involved with this service event," said Bob McDuffee, Youth Team Leader. "They enjoy talking with those who are dropping off needed items and helping others. We're excited to be involved with this vital ministry."

Requested items for the food pantry drive include personal items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, lotion, and razors. There is a particular desperate need for feminine hygiene products.

Essential cleaning supplies for the home are also in great need, including all-purpose cleaners, glass cleaners, scrubbing sponges, microfiber cloths, paper towels, and toilet cleaners and brushes.

Gift cards and gas cards are very helpful in assisting Grafton Food Pantry clients.

Monetary donations are welcome and extend the reach to help others. With every $1 donation, the Grafton Food Pantry is able to purchase an equivalent of $8 for food to help those in need.

Checks should be made payable to Grafton Food Pantry.

The Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley serves individuals in need from Huntley, as well as portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake.
