Let Your Dreams Set Sail - A Sailing Course for Sailors and Wannabees
With Lake Michigan and the Chain O'Lakes at our doorstep, wouldn't it be nice to spend a nice summer day aboard a sailboat? Today is your lucky day! America's Boating Club of Waukegan is offering a Sail course for all current sailors and sailor-wannabees to get you ready for some fun in the sun.
The Sail course is a fundamental and comprehensive sail course created to serve the needs of the novice and experienced sailor, as well as the non-sailor. It covers basic sailing skills and knowledge, starting with basic sailboat designs, terminology, plus the types of rigging. Safety and proper sailing techniques are also addressed. In addition, the physical aspects of sailing forces, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship and the handling of more difficult sailing conditions are covered. Navigation rules and an introduction to heavy weather sailing round out the course.
The eight-session course will be held online via Zoom, Wednesday evenings, from 6:30pm - 8:30pm, starting on January 19, 2022. It ends on March 9th with a final exam.
The course costs $75 for America's Boating Club members, or $105 for nonmembers. The course materials include a resourceful, detailed Sail textbook.
