'Mary's Garden' Advent program features flowers associated with Blessed Virgin Mary

Ladies, imagine yourself - in December - in a fragrant garden, surrounded by stunning flowers and beautiful shrubbery. It's the perfect place to prayerfully reflect on the Blessed Mother and begin your celebration of Advent.

To make this dream come true, plan to attend "Mary's Garden," an Advent by Candlelight program that will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the Lighthouse room at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road in Naperville.

The program will center on 10 flowers associated with the Blessed Mother.

Available only by attending in person, current COVID procedures will be followed during the program, and wearing face masks will be required of everyone, regardless of vaccination status. Hand sanitizer also will be available.

"Over the centuries many flowers and shrubs have come to be associated with attributes of Mary and events in her life," said Chari Rosales, Director of Adult Faith Formation at St. Thomas. "So the program will concentrate on those flowers through a variety of media and will include prayerful reflection about these events."

Rosales promised, "It will be an entertaining as well as an educational evening of hearing about the legends, reflections, poetry and art of the various flowers and shrubs while enjoying the company of women and meeting new friends that includes delicious snacks."

Reservations are encouraged no later than Wednesday, Dec. 1, to ensure adequate seating arrangements. A $10 donation will be welcomed at the door.
