What You May Not Know About Breast Cancer & How You Can Help
One out of 8 women could develop breast cancer.
As fall festivities begin, October 1st marks the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The purpose of this yearly event is to raise funds for breast cancer research, support services for those affected by the disease, and help increase awareness that breast cancer is the second leading of cancer deaths in women.
Though one the most significant risk factors for breast cancer is being a woman, an increasing number of new cases (2,650) are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2021. In comparison with women, 1 of out 833 men run the risk of developing breast cancer.
As 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer, we've learned that genetics are not the only cause of this genetic mutation. It is thought breast cancer forms through an unfortunate combination of genetics, hormones, and environmental factors. All of which negatively affect DNA.
The influence of hormones and environmental factors on the body are heavily discussed in the New Age Spa Institute's curriculum. Knowing hormones are "chemical messengers" and how environmental factors can create dangerous "free radicals" within the body, helps realize that how seemingly small roles like skin and nails relate to the body's whole health.
