Wego Drama returns to in-person shows with 'Harvey' Aug. 20-21

Wego Drama at West Chicago Community High School celebrates the return of live theater with the American classic "Harvey." Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20-21. Tickets are $8 or $5 for students, available at www.wegotheatre.com or at the door. Proper masks are required for all audience members.

"Harvey" is the sweet Pulitzer Prize winning comedy by Mary Chase. It is the story of the lovable Elwood P. Dowd and his best friend, Harvey. There is only one problem; Harvey is a 6-foot rabbit that no one else can see. The hilarity ensues as everyone tries to come to terms with Elwood and Harvey!

Wego Drama senior Jazmin Wilkins states, "It is wonderful to be back on stage and getting ready to share our art with a live audience. This show is the perfect way to start our season."

Mikail Herrera continues, "I love playing Elwood. He and Harvey set the right tone for our society, especially after this year. It has been a rough one, but this play will make everyone feel better."

Maggie Hancock adds, "'Harvey" is a perfect play. It may be an American classic - but it really resonates still. I know the audience will laugh, smile, and love 'Harvey' as much as I do."

The company of actors and crew for the show includes:

• From Carol Stream: Philip Calabrese, Margaret "Maggie" Hancock, Sarah Larimer, Alysa Solomon, Kathryn Wenberg, and William Wenberg.

• From West Chicago: Kenya Bahena, Alex Bradley, Ava Fini, Nirali Kadakia, Vincent Lamantia, Vincent Ross, Katherine Vander Plaats, and Olivia Wesling.

• From Winfield: Hannah Brown, Carolyn Fleming, Mikail "Kai" Herrera, Leah "Avery" Moffatt, Elizabeth Ryan, and Jazmin Wilkins.

"Harvey" is directed by Mark Begovich. Technical direction is by Christopher Jensen. Costumes are by Clare McKelleston, and hair and makeup by Jaime Elsa. Additionally, "Harvey" features original artwork by the award-winning Bella Wiehle.
