Make the Most of Summer at the Wheeling Park District

The season of concerts, movies and special events at the Wheeling Park District culminates with the End-of-Summer Bash!

Summer is fleeting, so make the most of it. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion and enjoy the remaining free Summer Entertainment Series.

The final Sunday night concert takes place on Aug.1, at 5 p.m., when Rico channels the spirit of Santana with rich sounds and masterful vocals. On Friday, Aug. 6, Modern Day Romeos will put a spell on you from 7to 9 p.m., at the last Headliner Concert of the season. This quintessential party band rocks out with the most fun, high-energy show around. Mario's Cart food truck adds the spice.

Movies in the Park finishes with a bit of whimsy and some magic. Arrive at the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion by 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, for the pre-movie show with magician Gary Kantor. Sit back and enjoy the family-friend flick "Trolls World Tour." Follow Branch and Poppy as they unite to protect the other musical troll kingdoms they discover when their unique musical styles are threatened by the sinister heavy metal couple King Thrash and Queen Barb.

Unplug at the Park, the series of free Wednesday evening events, wraps up at Childerley Park on Aug. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. Miss Jaime's Farm, one of Chicagoland's favorite children's performers, gets everyone involved in a show featuring kid-friendly music and songs.

The month of special events starts out strong with the Strong Kids Triathlon on Sunday, Aug.1, 8-10 a.m., at the Heritage Park. Cheer on our budding athletes as they swim at the Family Aquatic Center, bike the Heritage Park trails and run through the Heritage Park complex to the finish line! The Wheeling Park District and Wheeling Police Department join forces to offer a variety of free activities for all ages at National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., at the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion and Family Aquatic Center.

Everyone is invited to celebrate one of the best seasons of the year at the free End-of-Summer Bash on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 1to 5 p.m., at the Heritage Park Performance Pavilion. Enjoy live music by the popular '80s cover band Hi Infidelity along with outdoor games, inflatables, Kid's Fun Zone, food trucks, airbrush tattoos and arts and crafts.
