Marklund Day School students get a special visitor

On July 12, U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood stopped by for a tour of the Marklund campus in Geneva, a nonprofit organization that offers residential, educational and day services to children and adults with profound developmental disabilities.

While there, she met with administration to learn how the organization utilized the COVID-19 funding provided by the federal government over the past year.

In addition, Director of Education Paula Bodzioch offered a tour of the organization's newest facility, the Foglia Education Center at Marklund Day School. It was an opportunity to observe classrooms and learn how Marklund works with area school districts to provide specialized education to children on the autism spectrum and those with multiple medical needs.

Marklund has three residential locations: Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva, Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale, and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin.

Marklund Day School uses a holistic approach to enhance physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Teachers and therapists learn about students' individual strengths through assessment, direct observation, and communication with families.
