BAMtheatre unveils summer programming with two outdoor musicals
BAMtheatre in Hinsdale recently announced its summer lineup, which includes two fully produced outdoor musicals and a six-week summer camp series.
The Broadway Workshop Series summer camp series is featuring titles such as "Moana Jr.," "Peter Pan Jr." and "Legally Blonde Jr."
The high school and college musical is "Mamma Mia!" and their Youth Theatre Musical is "High School Musical Jr." Since September 2020, in response to the social distancing orders implemented by the COVID-19 pandemic, BAM has reimagined its in-person, musical theatre-focused programming. This has included mounting productions as movie musicals, staging socially distanced theatre, virtual rehearsals and workshops, and other activities to keep students active and engaged in the arts.
BAM's 21st summer season includes:
• Production auditions for "Mamma Mia!" on Saturday, May 8; rehearsals on Monday, May 17; and performances June 24-27.
• Production auditions for "High School Musical Jr." on Friday, May 7; rehearsals on Monday, July 12; and performances Aug. 6-8.

As with all of BAM's summer programs, the objective for these productions is to meet in person for all rehearsals and to have a performance for a live audience. This summer, BAM is exploring new opportunities to perform outdoors, on location, and create site-specific theatre - all for a live audience. Details on the performance venue will be announced soon.
Summer camp series
The Broadway Workshop Series is the perfect summer camp for any kid who has a theatrical side. Each camp session, designed for a specific age group, presents a show. In all camps, students learn the foundational practices for musical theatre: singing, acting, and dance. Each session culminates with a final performance where each student gets to shine. Rehearsals and performances will take place at a location in the Hinsdale or Clarendon Hills area.

BAMtheatre was established to create opportunities for youth to receive professional musical theater training and education. The students go on to study theatre and music and leading educational institutions including NYU, University of Michigan, the Boston Conservatory, and others.
