Naper Settlement's galleries now open with the extended 'Women: Waves of Change Exhibit'
To commemorate Women's History Month, Naper Settlement invites the community to stop by the extended "Women: Waves of Change" exhibit which explores the stories of women, past and present, who were and are foundational in the formation and development of Naperville and beyond.
Naper and Heritage Galleries, located on the main level of the Pre-Emption House Visitor Center, are now reopened to the public.
The exhibit, which debuted in August, commemorates the 100th anniversary of Women's Suffrage, with a focus on local history, and with an eye toward framing it within a larger story of the different ways women have advocated for issues throughout the past century and a half. The exhibit will show a national narrative as the backdrop and highlight women's stories from Naperville. Featuring fun cultural touchstones and artifacts, "Women: Waves of Change" shows how the community fits into different larger movements and trends.
Viewing is included in museum admission. The exhibit will remain open through March 19.
The museum's outdoor campus, which features 31 historic buildings spread across 13 acres, will continue to welcome visitors with several self-guided mobile tours. Through the On-Cell mobile app, visitors can access eight new tours, including a quick history tour, architecture tour, "Women: Waves of Change" tour, STEM tour, and more. All building interiors, apart from the Naper and Heritage Galleries, are still closed to the public until further notice. Naper Settlement's "Brushstrokes of the Past" exhibit will remain closed at this time.
Due to limited capacity, visitors are encouraged to purchase general admission before visiting at NaperSettlement.org/admission.
General museum admission is at a reduced winter rate of $5. Naperville residents with proof of residency, children under 4, and members are admitted free of charge. All visitors must follow the required COVID-19 safety measures. A complete list of safety requirements can be found at NaperSettlement.org/reopen.
The museum is at 523 S Webster St. Featuring exhibits, special events, educational programming, and more, the museum is home to 31 historical structures dating back as early as the 1830s. Naper Settlement is where history comes alive and the community comes to connect. For more information, visit napersettlement.orgor call (630) 420-6010.
