Glenbard to host annual Valentines for Vets Feb. 3

Glenbard District 87 high schools will hold their annual "Valentines for Vets" event on Wednesday, Feb 3.

This is an opportunity for students to create cards and letters to thank hospitalized veterans and those currently serving in the military.

Special thanks go to the physical education, driver education and health students and staff who will participate in the day.

Thanks also go to Glenbard's Advocating Character Through Service (ACTS) Committee and the Village of Glendale Heights for their leadership of this important service opportunity.

This event was the brainchild of Gina Thorson, who was the public relations director in Glendale Heights. Years ago, Thorson read a newspaper story about veterans in hospitals or long-term care facilities rarely receiving mail. She decided to do something about it - send them Valentines. Her idea took on a whole new life when our students picked up the idea and ran with it. Sadly, Thorson passed away a few years ago, but her legacy lives on in our students.
