North Suburban YMCA Announces Flexible New Program Choices

The North Suburban YMCA's Winter Program registration is now underway. To meet the needs of the community during the pandemic, many classes and programs are available both virtually and in-person.

During the Tier 3 mitigations in Illinois, only one-on-one programs such as personal training and private lessons will be held in the Y's facility at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. Barring any changes, the Y is prepared to begin online classes in January, then offer both in-person and virtual options when Illinois moves to the Tier 2 mitigation level.

The Y's winter offerings include a variety of new children's classes and workshops that help promote wellness and healthy living. Highlights include the "One and Done" art workshops, Mini Movers Dance for ages 3-5, "Jokin' Around" Comedy Class for 1st-5th Graders, the Girl Scout Badge Programs, "Expedition Mars" in the SmartLab for 1st-5th Graders, and so much more. Also offered are popular classes for the Special Needs community, gymnastics for all ages, and aquatics.

The North Suburban YMCA recently launched the Virtual Y, a new membership-only resource that ensures community members can access their favorite classes and programming online. The Virtual Y membership includes a range of classes for all ages, from strength training to Adult Education programs, and children's projects. Membership to the Virtual Y online access is included in all Y memberships; non-members can access the Virtual Y for $10 per month.

For participants who choose to come to the YMCA in person, CDC guidelines and the guidelines and recommendations of state and local government authorities are in place. These include requiring masks throughout the building, temperature wellness checks before entering, smaller class sizes to allow for social distancing, and sanitization of all spaces after use.

"Our Virtual Y allows our members to access healthy living and youth development programs from anywhere," remarked Kathy Fielding, CEO of the North Suburban YMCA. "Shifting to online classes has proven to be a seamless way to continue our mission of strengthening communities by keeping them connected, active, and healthy while at home."
