Bloomingdale Township honors League of Women Voters of Roselle/Bloomingdale

Bloomingdale Township Supervisor Michael D. Hovde Jr. and the Bloomingdale Township Board recognized the 100th anniversary of the League of Women Voters at their board meeting Jan. 21 by presenting a proclamation to the League of Women Voters of Roselle/Bloomingdale.

Four of their members attended the meeting to accept, and the township thanks them for their efforts to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major political policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

On Feb. 14, the League of Women Voters of Illinois is celebrating 100 years as a nonpartisan grass-roots civic organization. Founded out of the women's suffrage movement, the League has evolved to fight to educate all people on their civic duties and advocate for government and social reform legislation.

The League of Women Voters is the national parent to local Leagues in all 50 states and more than 700 communities, but the League of Women Voters of Illinois serves as its unofficial flagship, since the League was founded here in Illinois.
