Northwestern Medicine CDH helps patient attend her daughter's wedding at the hospital

A wedding is a very special time for mothers and daughters and is often a day both dream about together. When Bartlett resident JoAnne Marik recently underwent an unexpected surgery, she would not be able to recover in time for her daughter's wedding on Jan. 2, 2020.

Her daughter Callie Marik, also of Bartlett, couldn't imagine getting married without her mom present.

Callie asked the staff at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital if she could get married at the Winfield hospital so that her mom could be there for her big day.

After a conversation between Callie, JoAnne, the nursing staff and chaplain, the decision was made to move the wedding from a nearby church to a small lobby on the second floor of the hospital's inpatient area.

Lisa Hancock, Clinical Director for Surgical Care, helped set up the lobby for the ceremony and the bride's friends and family stepped in to help with décor.

At about 2:30 p.m., Callie and her fiancé Alex Ramirez wed in an intimate ceremony with close family, friends and, of course, her mom looking on.
