Attorney Kerry Lavelle Speaks at Arkansas Bar Association Event

Attorney Kerry Lavelle, founder of Schaumburg-based Lavelle Law, was a guest presenter at the Arkansas Bar Association Mini-MBA event this week. The 2-day session provided educational opportunities for members of the Arkansas Bar.

A frequent presenter at state, regional and national bar association events, Lavelle spoke on Succession Planning for Solo, Small and Growing Offices.

"This is a topic that I have been focused on a great deal lately," said Lavelle. "It is imperative for a successful law firm to devise a clear and executable succession plan well before it is needed. It benefits the partners, attorneys, staff and clients when this process is carefully planned in advance."

Lavelle followed his own advice as his practice grew from being a solo practitioner to an established firm with more than 30 attorneys. He orchestrated a process two years ago in which he relinquished day to day operations of the firm to a new Managing Partner, allowing Lavelle to focus more on practicing law and taking a more active role in the legal community. He has authored two books published by the American Bar Association, "The Business Guide to Law: Creating and Operating a Successful Law Firm" and "The Early Career Guide for Attorneys: Starting and Building a Successful Career in Law."

"Many attorneys build outstanding and successful practices but without a succession plan, their legacy may be lost when they retire or should an accident or health concern take them away before expected," Lavelle noted. "At the bar association event we'll discuss best practices to ensure a smooth transition under any circumstances."

Lavelle Law's main office is in Schaumburg and maintains an additional office in the Chicago Loop. The firm was founded in 1989 as a single attorney practice with an emphasis on tax law. The firm has added more than a dozen practice groups including Estate Planning, Business Law, Banking Law, Litigation, Criminal, Immigration, Divorce and Family Law, Commercial and Residential Real Estate and Law Practice Consulting. The firm has received numerous awards and commendations for their business success, their commitment to ethics, national recognition for their pro bono services, and multiple acknowledgements of the charitable work they do in the local communities.
