St. Isidore School plans full week of activities for National Catholic Schools Week

St. Isidore Catholic School and its 250-plus students, staff and parents will be involved in several special activities as part of its celebration of and participation in National Catholic Schools Week being observed nationwide Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.

Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of the high quality, faith-based education the nation's Catholic schools provide, sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association in Arlington, Virginia.

The theme for 2019 National Catholic Schools Week is "Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.," with participating schools observing the annual celebration with Masses, open houses and various other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members.

According to the NCEA, through these type of events, schools focus on the value that Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to Church, community and nation.

According to St. Isidore Principal Cyndi Collins, the Bloomingdale school will launch its Catholic Schools Week activities on Sunday, Jan. 27 with a Mass at 8:30 a.m.

The St. Isidore Knights of Columbus will be hosting a pancake breakfast in the Ministry Center following all Masses.

An open house for prospective new students also will be held on opening day Sunday, Jan. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Prospective students and their parents are invited to visit the St. Isidore School campus, tour the school, talk with teachers, administrators and school board members and generally gather information on the Bloomingdale school.

The rest of the week features a variety of fun and Catholic faith-based activities each day of the week, including making Valentine's cards for veterans, putting together care packages for cancer patients, a Carnival Day, roller skating party, class theme day, eighth grade presenting "Lauda Anima," an appreciation of Catholic Music program, Wheel of Wisdom and a Friday pep rally followed by the traditional eighth grade vs. faculty volleyball game among others.

The week will close on Sunday, Feb. 3, with a potluck luncheon for school families.

St. Isidore School, started in the early 1920s, is located at 431 W. Army Trail Road in Bloomingdale. It is part of the Joliet Diocese. It has 256 students preschool through eighth grade and a staff of 30 teachers, aides and administrators, more than 70 percent of which hold masters degrees or above.

"Teaching the Heart of the Matter" is the school's mantra, as part of its mission to "… plant, cultivate, grow and share with children, the Kingdom of God …"
