Town hall Oct. 13 to focus on eradicating gun violence

Individuals and organizations invested in eradicating gun violence will gather for a town hall at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Congregation Etz Chaim, 1710 S. Highland Ave., Lombard.

This groundbreaking conversation includes Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivors Lauren Hogg and Ryan Servaites, and March For Our Lives student activists. Brandon Farbstein - a member of March for Our Lives and revolutionary empowerment speaker for young people - also will participate.

Two panels will include: Sean Casten, candidate for Illinois 6th Congressional District; Terra Costa Howard, candidate for state Representative 48th District; Jim Caffrey, candidate for state Representative 47th District; March for Our Lives activists; and Chicago-area youth who daily deal with gun violence.

State Sen. Chris Nybo (24th District), Congressman Peter Roskam (Illinois Sixth District) and state Rep. Deanne Mazzochi (47th District) have been invited but have yet to confirm.

During the Stoneman Douglas survivors' stay in Chicago, they will join Chicago-area students in multiple meetings with candidates and incumbents, establishing gun violence prevention objectives for future policy.

Resolutions made at the conclusion of the Oct. 13 Town Hall will set the foundation for common sense reforms. All participants are encouraged to pressure legislators to act on the issue of gun violence at both state and federal levels.

Several politicians from both sides of the aisle have been invited to panel, and many others have committed to attend as audience members.
