Woodlands Academy Forum welcomes alumna

College professor and author Colleen Murphy, Ph.D., will return to her high school alma mater to discuss the "Role of Women in Transitional Justice."

This program will be presented from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, in the Gloria Dei Center on the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart campus, 760 E. Westleigh Road, Lake Forest. Tickets are $20 each and lunch is included.

Transitional Justice is an approach to systematic violations of human rights that both provides redress to victims and creates and enhances opportunities for the transformation of political systems, conflicts and other conditions that may have been at the root of the abuses.

Murphy is a professor in the College of Law and the departments of philosophy and political science at the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign, director of the Women and Gender in Global Perspectives Program in International Programs and Studies, and affiliate faculty of the Beckman Institute.

Her latest book, "The Conceptual Foundations of Transitional Justice," analyzes the topic and outlines the ethical standards that societies attempting to democratize should follow.

Seating for this public event is limited, and tickets should be purchased by Sept. 21. It will follow a presentation by Murphy to the students at Woodlands, an all-girls college-preparatory day-and-boarding high school.
