Father Yaroslav Mendyuk, a chaplain serving Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children's Hospital, is a Ukrainian Catholic priest who immigrated to the United States in 1997. He has been watching in horror as the attacks devastate his beloved homeland and move closer to his native city, Ivano-Frankivsk. He has been in constant contact with his brothers and their families, who remain in Ukraine to help fleeing refugees and are feeling scared and overwhelmed. Mendyuk is doing whatever he can to provide spiritual support to not only his family, but also his Advocate colleagues and Ukrainian parishioners at his Palatine church where he serves as associate pastor.
