A pedestrian pushes a stroller along the trail surrounding the 80-foot smokestack Wednesday at Gelatin Park in Grayslake. For 60 years, the Grayslake Gelatin Co. was the village's industrial heart and one of its main employers. The factory was closed in the early 1980s and the site was converted into a park. The smokestack was preserved which says Grayslake on one side and gelatin on the other. The park is located just west of the Grayslake Area Public Library. Paul Valade/pvalade@dailyherald.com

This view looks straight down from 225 feet onto a small harbor with eleven docks in the Fox River on Saturday, May 22, 2021. The harbor is in Lions Park in Fox River Grove, just south of Northwest Highway. The peninsula at the top of the photo has a picnic table and bench in the middle and a flagpole at the end.   Located on Central Road just west of Rolling Meadows High School, this Rolling Meadows water tower appears to be wearing a crown of sorts prior to repainting. While an artistic design graces the west side of the water tower, the lettering scheme is asymmetrical as the city's name is spelled out in capitalized black letters on the opposite side. The metal protrusions allow the installation of a protective liner around the tank to minimize dust and overspray from landing on the surrounding area, including nearby homes and cars.
