Fortner keeps 95th District House seat

Voters on Tuesday returned Republican incumbent Michael Fortner to the 95th House District seat, choosing him over Green Party candidate Gerard Schmitt.

Unofficial results showed Fortner, a 20-year resident of West Chicago, defeating Schmitt. Fortner led with about 76 percent of the vote to Schmitt's 24 percent, with all precincts reporting.

"I'm very gratified by the response of the voters in the 95th District who felt that my work in my first term has led them to have faith that I deserve a second term," Fortner said. "There are a number of things that I started during my first term in the Illinois House that I'd like to continue pushing on."

Fortner plans to aggregate electricity to lower prices for residential users, something he started working on last year.

He also wants to continue to look at nuclear energy in Illinois.

"We haven't addressed this question in Illinois, and it's important to see where we are at and what we need in place regarding nuclear energy and where it fits into the future," Fortner said.

Fortner successfully ran for 95th House seat for the first time in 2006.

The 95th District includes all or parts of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Naperville, North Aurora, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, Winfield and unincorporated DuPage County.
