Cooking oil collection at several locations Saturday

SCARCE and Green Grease are teaming with local municipalities for a post-Thanksgiving cooking oil collection on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Residents who fry their turkey or have vegetable cooking oil may drop it off at one of the participating locations for it to be recycled into biodiesel. Liquids are not allowed in your trash bin and pouring oils in storm drains pollutes local water bodies and can clog drains.

Cooking oil can be dropped off 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations: SCARCE, 800 S. Rohlwing Road in Addison; Clarendon Hills public works, 452 Park Ave.; Downers Grove Sanitary Treatment Center, 2710 Curtiss St.; Elmhurst public works, 985 S. Riverside Drive; Glenbard Wastewater Authority, 945 Bemis Road in Glen Ellyn; Roselle city hall, 31 S. Prospect St.; and Wheaton public works, 821 W. Liberty Drive.

Collections also will be accepted 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Naperville household hazardous waste facility, 156 Fort Hill Drive, and 10 a.m. to noon at the Wheaton Sanitary District, 1S640 Shaffner.

Please bring the cooking oil in a container that you can leave behind. For more information, visit scarce.org or call (630) 545-9710. A list of year-round cooking oil collection sites can also be found at scarce.org/recycling/cooking-oil.
