Free Tax Return Assistance for Lower Income Families and Individuals

Taxpayers with incomes up to $54,000 are eligible to participate

Volunteer Tax Assistance Site is open in Naperville for 19th consecutive year

For the 19th consecutive year, there will be a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site operating in Naperville during the income tax filing season. Our new location this year is the 95th Street branch of the Naperville Public Library (3015 Cedar Glade Dr., Naperville, IL 60564). The VITA program will operate from 9:00 AM until Noon on the following dates: February 20 and March 5, 12 and 19. Clients will be assisted in the order of their arrival as reservations are not accepted. Early arrival before the site opens is recommended.

The VITA program is designed to benefit individuals and families of low-to-moderate income who would like free assistance to complete their 2015 Federal and Illinois state income tax returns. The aim of the program is to ensure that eligible taxpayers receive the tax benefits that have been created to aid lower income families. This IRS-affiliated VITA site is sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Greater DuPage and Benedictine University. Last year, our volunteers assisted clients to file for over $133,000 in income tax refunds.

The VITA program in Naperville is staffed by business students from Benedictine University and Notre Dame Club members, who must complete training and IRS certification in order to qualify as tax preparers. The program is overseen by accounting professionals and Benedictine University faculty members.

Those who are interested in receiving help with the preparation of their 2015 Federal and Illinois State tax returns should bring proof of identification and tax information such as: W-2 forms, 1099 forms, property tax bill, copies of last year's tax returns, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds, and any other relevant income and expense information. This year participants must bring proof of health care coverage: Form 1095 ACA Statement.

Those with questions should call Mike Domagola of the Notre Dame Club at (312)-251-4367 for more information.
