Free Tax Return Assistance for Low Income Families and Individuals

Taxpayers with incomes up to $53,000 are eligible to participate

For the 18th consecutive year, there will be a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site operating during this tax filing season at the Nichols Library branch of the Naperville Public Library (200 W Jefferson St, Naperville). This year's VITA program will operate on the following dates: February 28 and March 7, 21 and 28 from 9:00 AM until Noon. Clients will be assisted in the order of their arrival as reservations are not accepted.

The program is designed to benefit individuals and families of low-to-moderate income who would like help in completing their 2014 Federal and Illinois state income tax returns. This IRS-affiliated VITA site is sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Greater DuPage and Benedictine University. The aim of the program is to ensure that eligible taxpayers receive the tax benefits that have been created to aid lower income families. Last year, the site's clients filed for over $150,000 in income tax refunds with the assistance of our volunteers.

The VITA program in Naperville is staffed by business students from Benedictine University and community members, who must complete training and IRS certification in order to qualify as tax preparers. The program is overseen by accounting professionals and Benedictine University faculty members.

Those who are interested in receiving help with the preparation of their 2014 Federal and Illinois State tax returns should bring proof of identification and tax information such as: W-2 forms, 1099 forms, property tax bill, copies of last year's tax returns, bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds, and any other relevant income and expense information. This year participants must bring proof of health care coverage: either Form 1095 or Affordable Health Care statement.
