Grant High School teachers approve contract

Teachers at Grant Community High School in Fox Lake have approved a new contract.

Lake County Federation of Teachers President Michael McGue said the Grant District 124 union members approved the contract in a vote Monday. District 124 board members ratified the deal at an Aug. 15 meeting.

Superintendent Christine Sefcik said the agreement will run three years, but details are not expected to be released until Thursday. Bargaining sessions occurred over the summer.

Grant’s average full-time teacher base salary was $65,635, just below the state’s $66,614, according to the 2012 school report card. Grant had a student enrollment of nearly 1,900.

District 124 instructors had worked under a four-year contract that expired June 30. Under the 2012-13 academic year salary schedule, the lowest base salary for a teacher with no experience and a bachelor’s degree was $34,751 and $73,529 on the high end for a 45-year instructor possessing a master’s degree.
