FullScore Chamber Orchestra performs local Winter Classics concert

FullScore Chamber Orchestra presents their next concert - "Winter Classics" at St Paul the Apostle Church at 6401 Gages lake Road in Gurnee - 7:30 p.m. February 8, 2013.

In northern Lake County, there are few artistic endeavors that reflect the rich cultural diversity of Chicago as well as FullScore Chamber Orchestra. Led by Artistic Director Ron Arden, this ensemble has its base in Zion but serves the whole region north of Evanston. It's players run the orchestra, raise funds themselves, and come to play with FCO from as far as Chicago and Milwaukee. But these aren't just "free lancers" making a living where they can. FullScore is something much bigger and more vital than that.

This chamber orchestra has membership levels: the first of which assures a player is paid for service but demands they also serve on committees, serve on its Governing Council at some point, and sell a certain number of tickets. Other levels include top drawer community and advanced student musicians who fill the ranks proudly for the experience of playing with professionals. The mix is exciting, educational, and vital to FCO's mission to nurture the arts all around them.

On February 8th at 7:30 in Gurnee, FullScore will celebrate its' "Winter Classics" fare to include Brahms "Haydn Variations", Britten "Simple Symphony", and the world premiers of local Chicago composer Donald Walker's "Chamber Overture" and "Fantasy for Clarinet and Orchestra". Walker has written/arranged numerous times for FullScore including a popular set of classic rock tunes they did last year for a pops concert. Mr. Walker has an impressive resume of arranging, writing, and transcribing for recording sessions involving the Chicago Symphony Brass Section, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, the Gershwin Foundation, the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Jazz International Orchestra and the Bari Symphony.

FullScore Chamber Orchestra thrives on celebrating diversity - classical, rock, pops, children's concerts, and vital new compositions. This years "Winter classics" at St Paul the Apostle in Gurnee promises to be yet another such celebration. Admission is $10 for adults and free for kids 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or in advance by calling Paul Hefner at 847-404-7921. There is ample parking and handicap access. Please visit us at www.fullscore.org.
